Roughly 40 minutes northwest of downtown Denver, Colorado, in the scenic mountain town of Boulder, is the community of Transit Village. Situated immediately north of the University of Colorado at Boulder East Campus, this neighborhood is bounded by Valmont Road on the north, Arapahoe Avenue/State Highway 7 on the south, 28th Street/State Highway 119/U.S. Highway 36 on the west, and Foothills Parkway/State Highway 157 on the east.
According to the city government, the Transit Village area was actually renamed Boulder Junction in 2007 and some rezoning was done in 2009, but many locals still refer to this area by its old name. Traversed by the rail line, this community is a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas, with a heavy emphasis on transportation. Among the long-term plans for redevelopment in this area are a new transit center, new and revitalized neighborhoods, improvements to transportation, and better business and industrial districts.
Boulder is well known for its natural beauty and mountain views, and Transit Village is no exception. However, this idyllic community also offers plenty of city conveniences. Almost the entire west side of the neighborhood is host to commercial areas, including several substantial shopping centers.
Of course, proximity to the university makes this a potentially ideal neighborhood for college students and faculty. It is easily within walking distance of both the main university campus and the east campus.
The Boulder Community Foothills Hospital is situated just outside of neighborhood bounds on the east, providing both a convenient health care option and a major area employer.
Two parks can be found just outside of neighborhood bounds as well. One borders the hospital, while the other – Scott Carpenter Park – is adjacent to the east campus. Additional opportunities for outdoor recreation are within five miles away in nearly any direction, at one of the many surrounding mountain parks or reservoirs, including Boulder Mountain Park.
