Located in the center of Lakewood, just to the southwest of Denver, South Alameda is a conglomeration of residential and commercial properties. The neighborhood is to the south of Alameda Avenue, north of West Mississippi Avenue, east of South Wadsworth Boulevard, and west of South Sheridan Boulevard. It contains two major parks, one large shopping center, a small lake, and numerous shops and residences.
South Alameda residents have access to several parks. Ray Ross Park, also known as Alameda Park, and Benfils Stanton Park are both within the neighborhood and are excellent parks in their own right. However, Belmar Park, which lies adjacent to South Alameda on the west side, is considerably larger and contains Kountze Lake.
Dog owners are partial to Belmar Park. Those with small children generally choose Benfils Stanton Park, with its miniature playground and well-manicured grass. Ray Ross Park offers multiple lit baseball and football fields, two playgrounds, a basketball court, concession stands, and many grills and picnic tables. There is even a splash area where water is squirted out of the ground. Many area children consider this their favorite attraction.
Shopping in South Alameda is no less amazing. Belmar Center is within the neighborhood borders and provides access to a number of retailers. However, if the selection there isn’t good enough, South Alameda residents have quite a few nearby shopping centers within easy driving distance. Jewell Square Shopping center is just a mile to the south, while the Mar Lee Manor Shopping Center is about the same distance to the southeast. Additional nearby shopping locations include the Sheridan Gables Shopping Center and a few others just past the mile-and-a-half mark.
Many other attractions are available in the greater South Alameda area. Colorado Christian University, for example, is just over a mile from the community’s edge.
