The Sloan’s Lake neighborhood lies on two hills that slope down toward the picturesque 177-acre Sloan’s Lake on its southern edge. It offers residents access to popular jogging trails in summer, cross country skiing in winter, the South Platte River Greenway, and is within easy walking distance of the Denver Broncos football games at Invesco Field at Mile High.
The first residences in Sloan’s Lake were constructed in the 1930s and 1940s and are predominately single-family homes. The neighborhood is sprinkled with small brick bungalows, two-story brick homes, and one-story ranchers. In recent years, home scrape-offs and pop-tops have become popular throughout Sloan’s Lake. New homes and upscale duplexes are now common throughout the neighborhood.
The Sloan’s Lake neighborhood includes the 80212, 80211, 80204 zip codes and is bordered by Sheridan Boulevard to the west, 17th Avenue to the south, Federal Boulevard to the east, and 29th Avenue to the west. Shopping is available along Sheridan and Federal, but most residents prefer to shop in the historic Highlands neighborhood along 32nd Avenue.
Sloan’s Lake is one of the most desirable Denver neighborhoods to live in, due to its location, amenities, and available activities. Sloan’s Lake Park offers jogging trails, playground equipment, fishing, boating, grassy fields, and tennis courts. Every July, Sloan’s Lake hosts the very popular Colorado Dragon Boat Festival. This well-attended festival brings authentic Hong Kong-style Dragon Boat racing, Asian cultural demonstrations, and an Asian market to Sloan’s Lake. Walking, bicycling, and public transportation are highly recommended, as neighborhood streets are blocked off during the festival.
The Sloan’s Lake neighborhood is within walking distance of Invesco Field at Mile High. Due to game day traffic, walking or bicycling are the quickest ways to attend football games. There are generous numbers of bicycle racks at the stadium. A low-traffic underpass allows bicyclists and pedicabs easy access to downtown Denver from the stadium. This route offers a safe, easy downtown commute during the week.
