Perhaps the smallest neighborhood in the municipality of Wheat Ridge is the unassuming Kipling Heights. Consisting of less than half a dozen homes, Kipling Heights lies between Kipling Street and Kline Street, just north of West 35th Avenue.
Although the entire neighborhood is residential, it is fully surrounded by commercial real estate on all sides. Kipling Street is a somewhat major commercial lane, and a half block’s walk to the north can take residents to the stores at the intersection of Kipling Street and West 38th Avenue. If deeper shopping experiences are desired, it is only a four-block drive to the west that will take you to the Applewood Shopping Center.
Nature enthusiasts will be glad to note that the wildlife sanctuary surrounding Kestrel Pond is only a half-block’s walk to the south, along with Paramount Park, Crown Hill Park, and the picturesque Crown Hill Lake. These parks attract all kinds of people, whether they’re with children or with dogs. Somewhat surprisingly, they also attract a large number of photographers. These photographers come to Crown Hill in the hopes of getting a photo of one of the rarer bird species that regularly comes to drink and lounge around Kestrel Pond and Crown Hill Lake. There are even a couple of bird species that are on the edge of getting listed as endangered species that come through this area at certain times of the year.
Kipling Heights residents are also happy with the local hospital, which is very highly respected within the greater region. The Exempla Lutheran Medical Center is just a few blocks to the east, and is well within walking distance. An animal hospital is located right on the northern border of Kipling Heights; Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital literally has their parking lot adjacent to half the homes in Kipling Heights.
