Hampden is well known for the variety of recreation throughout the area. It is hard to travel more than a short distance without finding another great park or trail. One of the best parks in the area, however, is Cherry Creek State Park. This large park is hugely popular for residents of the immediate area and out-of-town visitors.
Located on the east side of Cherry Creek Lake is a large campground where recreational vehicles park during their visit. On the east side of the lake is a popular public boat launch for recreational boaters and area anglers looking to enjoy a day on Cherry Creek Lake, the largest lake in the area. North of the lake is a massive paved trail. This trail goes throughout the surrounding area parks and the community, providing miles of trail for walkers, runners, cyclists, and skaters.
Area golfers have a wide variety of selection as well. There are golf courses throughout the region, but two are within only about a mile from Hampden. The largest is John F. Kennedy Golf Course to the south just north of Cherry Creek Lake. The other is Cherry Creek Country Club to the north off of Iliff Avenue. Both clubs provide a wide array of services and large clubhouses with knowledgeable golf professionals.
