Fitzsimons is a neighborhood in Aurora, Colorado. The neighborhood is framed by Colfax Avenue to the south, Peoria Street to the west, Fitzsimons Parkway to the north, and Interstate 225 to the east.
Fitzsimons is a mostly non-residential neighborhood. The neighborhood is almost completely dedicated to the health and well being of residents of the surrounding areas. Most of the area is consumed by major hospitals and support buildings. Some of the biggest organizations in the area include the Children’s Hospital, University of Colorado Hospital, University of Colorado Denver Anschuz Medical Center, and the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. These buildings provide the vast majority of the medical services to the residents of the surrounding area and beyond, as well as most of the services for veterans at the veteran’s hospital.
On the northwest side of Fitzsimons is one of the largest golf courses in the area, Fitzsimons Golf Course. This large course is well maintained and used by a golfers with a broad range of ability levels. The course also has a large clubhouse staffed by many extremely knowledgeable golf professionals who are able to assist with questions about the play of the course itself to more basic questions about the game of golf in general.
North of the Fitzsimons neighborhood is one of the best parks in the area for active residents. The park has limited services, but it has wonderful greenery as well as several creeks and Bluff Lake. The creeks are perfect for finding wildlife and birds and create the perfect ambiance for area residents looking to get some exercise in the park. Throughout the park is the Sand Creek Regional Greenway which is a popular patch of pavement for walkers, hikers, runners, cyclists, and even skaters. The greenway provides several miles of scenic paths, perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy the outdoors while exercising.
