While Academy Park is not one of the ninety-two officially recognized neighborhoods in Denver, Colorado, it is by no means unimportant to the history of Denver. Academy Park is home to Colorado Academy which has a very long, distinguished history. The history of the school dates back to 1906 when it was an all-boys school.
Originally called Hill School for Boys, Colorado Academy was located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver. Originally, this school was opened to provide educational opportunities for young men with a particular focus on military training. After several name changes, the school changed its name in 1923 to Colorado Military Academy. The name was officially change to Colorado Academy in 1955 and in 1971 the school became co-educational. Today, the school ranks extremely high in college placement with some years’ matriculation being 100%.
Pinehurst Country Club offers unobstructed views of the Rocky Mountains, opportunities to golf at one of their two golf courses, swimming and tennis. The site rests on two hundreds and twenty seven (227) acres of land and offers something for everyone in the family. The Pinehurst Country Club has been awarded Denver’s “Family Club of Choice.”
The Academy Park area, like much of the rest of Denver offers plenty of space for bike riding, hiking and chances to enjoy nature. There are also many opportunities in the surrounding area to get involved in gardening with the Denver Urban Gardens that offers residents in the area classes on composting, gardening and a host of other growing tips.
The Academy Area in Denver is a beautiful area with a wealth of history behind it. Whether you are strolling the grounds of the Pinehurst Country Club or interesting in gardening, you will be greeted with the sites of the Rocky Mountains and downtown Denver.
